Strategic Framework
The directors of Budina Aboriginal Corporation completed a strategic plan for the years of 2018-2020. They identified 6 goals to help the Corporation work towads their vision "Bringing Back our Culture".
Goal 1
To have a strong focus on learning
This means that:
To achieve this, we must:
- We are building our professional skills needed to ensure good governance to the corporation
- We actively share our knowledge with our people and our stakeholders
- The broader community understands and respects our culture and journey
- Leaders are identified and supported to reach their potential
- Providing our young ones with better opportunities to learn and advance in any career path they want
To achieve this, we must:
- Investigate different media platforms to teach our history and reach a broad audience
- Run cultural camps to provide opportunities for our kids to connect with their Country and learn about their culture
- Foster opportunities for training and employment with partners
- Develop a leadership and mentoring program for our people
- Provide governance, finance and web design training
Goal 2
Healthy Country
This means that:
To achieve this, we must:
- We have programs to manage our country
- Our indigenous flora and fauna are protected
- Ensure that access to country is controlled
- Our country and culture are respected
To achieve this, we must:
- Work closely and with respect with our elders, traditional owners and our partners to build on our on country projects
- Ensure programs work to eradicate pests and protect our country
- Restrict access to country
- Communicate our message effectively
Goal 3
Control over our resources
This means that:
To achieve this, we must:
- We are working well together
- We are sustainable into the future
- We manage and monitor our country
- We have a good governance framework
- We manage our future acts and heritage
To achieve this, we must:
- Communicate effectively with one another
- Ensure that future funding is sufficient to ensure the smooth running of our corporation
- Investigate Pastoral Ownership, acquire land, document sites and seek ranger funding
- Ensure that the corporation is compliant with relevant regulatory and contractual requirements
- Develop a cultural heritage strategy
Goal 4
To be respected as the Traditional Owners of Our Country
This means that:
To achieve this we must:
- Our past is acknowledged and respected
- Our corporation is strong and effective and recognised as the peak body representing the interests of our people
- Knowledge is shared with our people
- There is a greater degree of respect between external parties and our people
To achieve this we must:
- Provide better information to our people about their rights and interests as Traditional Owners with a native title determination through newsletters, fact sheets, website, and signage
- Increase the presence and accessibility of the organisation
- Work with local media to share our key messages
- Seek to acknowledge the people of our country
Goal 5
Healthy People
This means that:
To achieve this we must:
- Our Elders are respected and cared for
- Our younger ones have good opportunities in all aspects of life to help them build confidence and improve their health and wellbeing
- The cultural, spiritual, and physical needs of our people are met
- Our people regularly get together to celebrate our culture and to fulfil our social needs
To achieve this we must:
- Establish good communication processes between our people and our elders
- Promote more opportunities for sporting events through our children’s schools
- Engage more with grant funding providers about the importance of promoting a healthy lifestyle to our people through healthy diet and healthy lifestyle
- Promote more social events with our people, such as country walks and camping out bush
Goal 6
One Voice
This means that:
To achieve this we must:
- We meet regularly
- We provide good governance
- We seek and provide good feedback
- We work together
To achieve this we must:
- Have regular board meetings
- Ensure compliance with the CATSI Act and our Rule Book
- Effectively communicate through our website, newsletters, and meetings
- Consider feedback and suggestions from our elders, common law holders, and members
